Poems on The Way: Drew Jackson Explores Luke’s Gospel in a New Poetic Register
When: June 7, 2023, 1:00 pm - Wednesday
Where: Journals Room
Session 1
Session Abstract
Drew E. Jackson’s poetry collection, God Speaks Through Wombs is a poetic telling of the first half of the Gospel of Luke, centering on the theme of liberation. This collection of poems is an attempt to recover those voices that have so often been silenced. In his second volume, Touch the Earth, Jackson explores the second half of Luke through the lens of his own experience as a Black man navigating American empire. Emerging out of the struggle of the journey, these poems are interested in what it means to be on the Way—in the dirt and dust where things get real and faith puts on flesh. In this session, a panel of experts in theology, literature, and ministry will critically engage Jackson’s work. The author’s poetry and responses will provide further conversation.
