Theological Education: Irrelevant to the Church?
When: June 10, 2022, 9:00 am - Friday
Where: Ezell 234
Session 6
Session Abstract
Likely, anyone from the church or the academy who reads this question would object. Yet the reality is that the structures and standards for theological education in churches remain minimal, and academic work enters into ecclesial spaces indirectly and second- or third-hand. Polite responses and conventional wisdom no longer suffice. Everyone believes it should be relevant, trends suggest that the disparate nature of these two spaces create impasses that will prevent meaningful communication unless these factors are acknowledged and addressed. We have gathered academics, clergy, and a seminary president to offer difficult assessments and critical analyses in order to till the ground of this topic.
