Session Abstract
Likened to David versus Goliath, this documentary chronicles the stories of struggle and resilience of nine Black farmers who prevailed against the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the late ‘90s. In their own words they describe the challenges of keeping their land and livelihood in the face of systemic racism within an agency called “the last plantation.” The co-producers will discuss the history of Black farmers, the structure of the USDA, its various agencies, and complicit forces that have stolen land from Black farmers. They will also present current advocacy efforts to address ongoing and historical grievances.
