Session Abstract

The genre of Biblical Introduction consists of two common approaches: “critical” editions explore OT texts as representations of ancient cultural ideas, and “popular” editions explain how OT teachings and stories set the stage for Christian doctrines. Mark Hamilton’s Theological Introduction… yokes these approaches together, demonstrating ways that inspired writers employed ancient Near Eastern literary types to address issues arising in the course of God’s relationship with His people. Four reviewers will consider how Hamilton’s work might enable church leaders and academics alike to engage the message of the OT more fully, section by section (Pentateuch, History, Wisdom, and Prophets).
